Seven people have been gunned down in Gugulethu. Police spokesperson, Novela Potelwa says a manhunt has been launched for the suspects with officers mobilising additional resources.
When police arrived on the scene they found 5 bodies strewn meters apart. Potelwa says two other victims who had been taken to hospital were later confirmed dead:
“Reports suggest there was a traditional thanksgiving ceremony at the home in NY79 when gunmen arrived in a vehicle and started firing shots.
They later fled the scene. As organised crime detectives continue with the probe, the motive is yet to be determined.”
The identities and ages of the deceased will be released once their next of kin are informed.
Western Cape Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thembisile Patekile says teams are already pursuing several leads, and will work through the night conducting tracing operations.
