DURBAN – Chaos erupted at an Estcourt Provincial hospital in KwaZulu Natal sparked by incidents that involved non-paying patients allegedly being hit and forced to vacate beds in preference of paying patients.
A disturbing video shows two security guards seemingly beating up a patient.
Staff, who are not allowed to speak to the media, have told eNCA off-camera that the incident occurred on Thursday night.
They claim the patient was mentally unwell and was apparently becoming violent.
Within hours, two security guards were suspended over the incident.
Another patient has detailed how he was allegedly asked for a bribe to get faster treatment.
The hospital has referred eNCA’s questions about the incident to the provincial department.
